Interviews with current asthma patients were conducted from July 29 through September 9, 2009 and averaged 33 minutes in length. Interviews with the general adult population were conducted from August 14 through September 10, 2009 and averaged 8 minutes in length. Interviews with the healthcare providers were conducted from August 21 through October 1, 2009 and averaged 15 minutes in length.

The maximum expected sampling error for a simple random sample of 300 (eg, doctor survey) is ±5.7 percentage points at the 95% confidence level; ±3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level for a sample of 1,004 (eg, survey of adults without asthma); and ±2.0 percentage points at the 95% confidence level for a sample of 2,500 (eg, patient survey).

The figures in this report are rounded estimates. The rounding convention used for the figures was to round up to the next whole number any value which had a decimal of .5 or higher. When summing answer categories, the rounded estimate for each category was added as it appears in the figure.

When a figure includes only one variable, statistical significance is indicated by an asterisk (*) in the title. When there are multiple variables in a figure, statistical significance is indicated by an asterisk (*) next to the variable name.
